12/27/15: Goldberg's Famous Bagels

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't gotten a chance to post yet this week!  Hope everyone had a great holiday season!

On Sunday, we visited Goldberg's Famous Bagels in Patchogue!

Goldberg's Famous Bagel, Inc.
85 E. Main Street
Patchogue, NY 11772
Phone: 631-320-3955

Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little cream cheese.  Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 3.5
Service: 3
Cost: $4.89

Bryan definitely liked the taste of his bagel more than Rebecca liked hers.  Rebecca found hers to be too crunchy.  Both of us liked the cream cheese, though!  We found the store was nice, and had an inviting interior.  We did find, however, that it was very cramped and that we needed to extend onto the already small seating area in order to find a place to wait for our bagels.  Our server was nice, and we did receive fast service.  Bryan does note, however, that his bagel wasn't as well-toasted as he would've liked, and he would've preferred to receive less cream cheese on his bagel.

All in all, we would give this bagel shop an "average" rating.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!  And send suggestions, questions, or comments to sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.

See you next week and have a happy New Year!

12/20/15: Bageltown of Levittown

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile!  As you may have imagined, we didn't have our usual Sunday Bagels on the 13th as Bryan wasn't feeling well that morning.  But we did go yesterday and we visited Bageltown of Levittown in Levittown!

Bageltown of Levittown
3263 Hempstead Turnpike
Levittown, NY 11756
Phone: 516-731-9320
Fax: 516-731-9384
Facebook: Bagel Town of Levittown
Website: bageltownoflevittown.com

Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with a little cream cheese.  Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 5
Cost: $5.84

While we both agreed that our bagels were not the greatest ones we've ever had, we really enjoyed them!  The cream cheese was very good, too.  The store was nice, and there was lots of room to line up (great on a crowded day like yesterday) but not so much space to wait for your order.  There was, however, ample seating room.  Our server was excellent!  She made sure Bryan's bagel was exactly the way he had ordered it and she even let Rebecca know that the sesame bagels had just come out of the oven and offered her the option of cream cheese on the side.

All in all, we were very impressed with our experience yesterday, and would highly recommend this bagel place!

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new.

Happy Holidays!

12/6/15: Kings Stuffed Bagel Corporation (Stuff a Bagel)

Hi Everyone!

Just getting to post this after a busy Sunday!  Yesterday morning, we visited Kings Stuffed Bagel Corporation in Central Islip (also called Stuff a Bagel)!

Kings Stuffed Bagel Corporation
(Stuff a Bagel)
166 Wheeler Road
Central Islip, NY 11722
(631) 582-6473

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a very-well-toasted everything bagel with a little cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 3
Service: 3.5
Cost: $5.50

While we agreed that the bagels weren't the best we've ever had, Bryan definitely liked his bagel more than Rebecca liked hers.  We did agree that the bagels were very good, though.  The store was very small, with very little seating room and waiting room.  Our server was nice, and she did make sure Rebecca got a light-colored bagel and Bryan's bagel was just the way he ordered it.  However, we did wait a very long time considering there was only one other patron in the store at the time we were there.

Overall, we would rank this bagel place as "average", and not among our top picks.

Don't forget to check back next week when we head somewhere new!  And, as always, you can email your suggestions to sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.

See you next week!

On Sunday, we visited Bagels-N-Brunch in Speonk!

Bagels-N-Brunch
295 Montauk Highway
Speonk, NY 11972
631-325-0850

Bryan ordered a very-well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 4
Cost: $4.30

Although we wouldn't say that these bagels were the best we've ever eaten, we did really enjoy the taste of both the bagels and the cream cheese!  The store was nice, and there was ample seating and waiting room. It wasn't very well lit, however, and the tables were very close together.  Our server was nice, and she did make sure Rebecca got a light-colored bagel.  However, Bryan's bagel had more cream cheese than he would have liked.

Overall, we were satisfied with our experience at this bagel store and would recommend it to those in the area.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!

Taste: 4.5
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 4
Cost: $4.00

We really liked the taste of our bagels!  Rebecca definitely liked hers more than Bryan liked his, but both of us really enjoyed ours!  We thought the store was nice, too.  It was a nice size, with ample seating and space to wait for your bagels.  Our server was very nice, and she served us very quickly.  In addition, she made sure Rebecca got a light-colored bagel, and that Bryan's bagel was well-toasted.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our experience today, and would highly recommend this bagel shop!

11/8/15: Bagel Boss Hicksville

Hi Everyone!

In February, when we first started working on our blog, we paid a visit to Holbrook Bagel Bakery, where we met the owner, Chris.  Chris no longer works at Holbrook Bagel Bakery, but let us know that he now holds a position at Bagel Boss in Hicksville.  Today, we checked it out!

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 5
Service: 5
Cost: $5.21

We really liked the taste of our bagels!  We wouldn't say they were the best we've ever eaten, but we definitely found them delicious.  We both agreed that we loved the store itself.  It was spacious, and made good use of every bit of space.  There was ample space to line up to order, and to wait for your bagels once they'd been ordered.  There was also ample seating space, and there were really nice tables and chairs.  There was also a huge selection with something for everyone.  We were also particularly impressed with our server.  He took the time to make sure Bryan's bagel was very well-toasted and that he only got a little bit of cream cheese.  Also, he made sure Rebecca got a light-colored bagel.

Overall, we would highly recommend this bagel place to anyone looking for a great bagel and a great experience!

11/1/15: Bagels and Such

Hi Everyone!

Sorry to post so late again after a busy couple of days!  On Sunday, we took a trip to Bagels and Such in Ronkonkoma!

Bagels and Such
90 Railroad Ave #107
Ronkonkoma, NY 11779
Phone: 631-585-5617

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 2
Atmosphere:3
Service: 3
Cost: $5.00

We thought our bagels tasted very dry, and Rebecca also didn't think the cream cheese was very tasty, either.  The store itself was very small.  There was seating, but it was kind of cramped, and there was very little room to wait for your bagels.  Our server was nice, and she did make sure Rebecca got a light-colored bagel and that Bryan's bagel was well-toasted.

Overall, we wouldn't rank this bagel shop high on our list.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!  And, of course, you can always email us suggestions: sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.

10/25/15: Strathmore Bagels Shirley

Hi Everyone!

So sorry I haven't posted this sooner!  We had a very busy but fun-filled Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday morning we visited Strathmore Bagels in Shirley!

Strathmore Bagels
999 Montauk Highway
Shirley, NY 11967
631-281-1476

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a very well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 3
Service: 4
Cost: $4.32

We thought the taste of our bagels was average; they weren't the best we've ever had, but we didn't dislike them, either.  The store was very small, and it was hard to find room to wait for your bagels.  There was indoor seating, but there weren't many tables.  Our server was very nice, and she gave us very fast, efficient service.  She did make sure Rebecca had a light colored bagel, but Bryan's bagel wasn't as well toasted as he would have liked, and he got more than a little cream cheese on his.

Overall, we were satisfied with our experience, but wouldn't rank this as one of our top picks.

Where should we go next week?  sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com

Have a great week!

10/18/15: Bagel Hut

Hi Everyone!

This week, on a recommendation, Sunday Bagels With Dad visited Bagel Hut in Farmingdale!

Bagel Hut
525 Fulton Street
Farmingdale, NY 11735
Phone: 516-249-3300
Fax: 516-249-3301

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 4
Cost: $4.99

Bryan definitely liked the taste of his bagel more than Rebecca liked hers.  Rebecca felt that hers was a bit bland, while Bryan thought the bagel had a flavor to it that he's never tasted before.  We did both agree, however, that the bagels were not the best we've ever eaten.  The bagel shop itself was nice, with plenty of seating.  There was, however, not much room to wait for your bagels, which can pose a problem on a crowded day.  We happened to show up on a day where the line was very long and stretched around the entire store.  As a result, we did have a hard time finding a spot to wait for our bagels.  Other than that, we did enjoy the small-town feel of the store, and would recommend it for its seating area to someone who likes to sit and enjoy their bagel in-store.  Our server was nice, and she did check to make sure Rebecca's bagel was light in color and that Bryan's bagel was well toasted and had only a little cream cheese.  We also received efficient service as the long line moved quite quickly and we received our bagels quickly considering the length of the line.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our experience today, and would recommend it if you are in the area and looking for a good bagel and a great bagel shop!

Remember that YOU can help us decide where to head next!  Our visit to Bagel Hut was a suggestion from a blog visitor just like you--you can be next!  Comment a suggestion or email it to sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  We look forward to hearing from you!

See you next week!

10/11/15: Avenue Bagels

Avenue Bagels
856 Long Island Avenue
Deer Park, NY 11729
Phone: 631-667-7399
Menu and Online Page: AllMenus (click here)

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 3.5
Cost: $4.89

We thought the taste of our bagels was average; they weren't the best bagels we've ever had, but they weren't the worst, either.  We did think the store was nice, though, Rebecca especially.  There was a nice open area to sit.  However, there wasn't much room to stand as you waited for your order.  Our server was nice, and she did make sure Rebecca got a light-colored bagel, but Bryan's bagel wasn't particularly well-toasted.

Overall, we wouldn't rate this bagel shop as one of our favorites, but we did have a satisfactory experience here.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!  And, as always, feel free to send us your suggestions: sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  See you next week!

10/4/15: Strathmore Bagel Cafe, Riverhead

Hi Everyone!

Posting this on Monday after a very busy Sunday!  Yesterday we took a trip to Strathmore Bagel Cafe in Riverhead!

Riverhead, NY 11901
Phone: 631-360-4400

Rebecca ordered a sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted egg everything bagel with cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 5
Service: 4
Cost: $4.45

We thought the taste of our bagels was average; they weren't our favorites, but they weren't the best bagels we ever had either.  We thought the store was very nice, though!  It was fairly big, with ample seating and waiting areas.  Our server was nice, and she served us our bagels promptly.

Overall, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and service of this bagel store, but we thought there was room for improvement in the taste category.

9/27/15: The Bagel Stop

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 2.5
Atmosphere: 3.5
Service: 3
Cost: $4.76

Rebecca really liked the taste of the cream cheese but we both thought the bagels were a little bland by themselves.  The store, although small, had a fair amount of seating and it was easy to find room to wait for your bagels as they were being prepared.  Our server was nice, and he made sure that Rebecca's bagel was light colored.

Overall, we were impressed with the style and service at this bagel store, but weren't so fond of the taste of the bagels themselves.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!  And, as always, you can comment or email suggestions: sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  See you next week!

9/20/15: Bagel Shoppe

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I didn't get to post this sooner.  We went to the NY Giants football game yesterday and today was just a very busy Monday.  Yesterday before the game we stopped at Bagel Shoppe in Bayside!

Bagel Shoppe
215-03 73rd Avenue
Bayside, NY 11364
Phone: 718-423-6692

Rebecca ordered a light colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 3
Service: 4
Cost: $6.00

We really liked the taste of the bagels and the cream cheese!  The store itself was very small and hot inside from the cooking of the bagels.  There was no indoor or outdoor seating, but there was some room to wait for your bagels to be ready.  Our server was very nice, and he made sure Rebecca was given a light bagel.

Overall, we were satisfied with our experience yesterday, and would recommend this bagel shop for anyone in the area.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!

9/6/15: Village Bagels Deli

Hi Everyone!

Today we decided to pay a visit to Village Bagels Deli in Syosset!

Village Bagels Deli
114 Jackson Ave.
Syosset, NY 11791
Phone: (516) 921-9090
Fax: (516) 921-9092

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a toasted everything bagel with a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3 1/2
Atmosphere: 2 1/2
Service: 4
Cost: $4.30

Both Rebecca and Bryan enjoyed the taste of their bagels but wouldn't rate them among the best bagels they've ever tasted.  Rebecca liked the cream cheese but felt that there wasn't much on her bagel.  The store was very small.  There was neither indoor nor outdoor seating, and there isn't much room to wait if you catch the store at a crowded moment.  Our server was very quick and efficient.  He made sure that Rebecca got a light-colored bagel and that Bryan's bagel had only a little cream cheese on it.

Overall, we thought the bagels were tasty but wouldn't rank this bagel store as one of our favorites.

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day!  See you next week!  (As always, we welcome suggestions in comments or via email at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com!)

8/30/15: Blvd. Bagels

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't gotten a chance to post yet, but we've had a very busy weekend!  We did get a chance to visit a new bagel shop though, and we decided to head to Blvd. Bagels in Nesconset!

Blvd. Bagels
145 Smithtown Blvd.
Nesconset, NY 11767
Phone: 631-979-BLVD (2583)
Fax: 631-979-1613

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered two scrambled egg whites on a toasted everything bagel.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 3
Service: 4
Cost: $5.76

Although Rebecca enjoyed hers more than Bryan enjoyed his, we both really liked our bagels!  The store had an attractive interior, but there was no indoor seating and only one outdoor table.  Also, the store was very small, making it very hard to tell where the end of the line is on a crowded day, as it was when we were there, and leaving you very little room to wait for your bagels.  Our server was nice, and made sure Rebecca was given a light-colored bagel.  Also, we felt we were served very promptly, especially considering the fact that Bryan ordered eggs and that the store was very crowded.

Overall, we were happy with our experience at Blvd. Bagels yesterday!

As always, we'd love it if you let us know where you think we should go next!  See you next week!

Setauket, NY 11733
Phone: 631-675-2770
Fax: 631-675-2772

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted sesame bagel with a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4.5
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 4
Cost: $5.97

We liked the taste of our bagels.  Bryan liked his much more than Rebecca liked hers.  Bryan really loved his bagel, while Rebecca wouldn't rank it as her favorite (although she did enjoy it a lot).  The store itself is small.  While it does have a bit of indoor seating as well as an outdoor table, the line is sort of cramped and there is not much room at all to wait for your bagels to be served.  While our server did check to make sure Rebecca got a light-colored bagel, she didn't make Bryan's well-toasted and he got more cream cheese than he would have liked.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience at this bagel shop today, and would recommend it if you're in the area and looking for a great bagel store.

8/16/15: Bean and Bagel Cafe!

Hi Everyone!

Sorry it's been such a long time since we've posted!  Summer has been crazy for all of us.

Bryan doesn't have his brace off yet but he is feeling much better so we decided to do our first bagel shop visit since May!  We chose to visit the Bean and Bagel Cafe in Calverton!

Bean and Bagel Cafe
4426 Middle Country Road
Calverton, NY 11933
Phone: 631-237-8979
http://www.beanandbagelcafe.com/
Facebook: Bean and Bagel Cafe

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan got a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 5
Atmosphere: 5
Service: 5
Cost: $5.43

We really liked the taste of our bagels!  We felt that they were among some of the best we've ever had.  In addition, we really loved the atmosphere of this cafe.  It offers ample outside and inside seating as well as plenty of room to wait for your order to be processed.  Plus, it offers something for everyone, with lots of different kinds of bagels, cream cheese, and more.  We were also extremely impressed with our server.  She made sure that Rebecca got a light-colored bagel and that Bryan's bagel was well-toasted and contained only a little cream cheese.  She was also very quick and efficient in serving us...I can't remember the last time we were done so quickly!  Finally, we were impressed as well with the manager of this bagel shop.  Bryan had talked to her on occasion in the past and remembered that she has donated books to charity, which Rebecca was interested in (since she's trying to clear out most of her childhood books), and she was happy to talk to Rebecca about ideas for donating children's books to good causes.

Overall, we really loved our experience at this bagel shop today and would definitely recommend this to someone in the area or visiting the East End looking for a great bagel shop.

Hopefully, we'll continue our run of feeling good and will head somewhere new next week.  Until then, have a great week, and don't forget to post or email suggestions (sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com) of places for us to visit in the future!

Talk to you soon!

7/5/15: Sunday Bagels With Dad Update

Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone had a great Father's Day and 4th of July!

Sorry for such a long absence.  We haven't visited any new bagel shops since I last wrote. The good news is that Bryan's arm is healing very well and the doctor is very happy with the progress.  Unfortunately, I'm not able to tell you right now when we'll be back on the bagel circuit, but I'll definitely keep you posted.

Hope that everyone is having a great start to their summer!

6/17/15: Sunday Bagels Update!

Hi Everyone!

As you may have already assumed, Sunday Bagels With Dad didn't visit any bagel store this weekend.  We aren't sure when we will be able to again as Bryan's arm is still in the healing process and it looks as though it will be a long road.  I will say, however, that the doctor was very happy with Bryan's X-ray this morning and pronounced it the "best X-ray yet"!  That's great news, and we're hoping it will continue.

As always, I will keep you posted whenever we've got an update.  Talk soon!

6/4/15: Sunday Bagels Update

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't gotten to post yet this week!  It's been crazy!

As you may have assumed, we didn't visit a bagel place this past Sunday, May 31.  We also won't be rating a bagel store this weekend, June 7.  Bryan is still not allowed to drive due to his broken arm and is also in a lot of pain.  The bone is pretty well lined up, though, so we are hoping for a quick recovery.  Beyond this weekend, we are unsure about our future.  Please keep us in your thoughts and I will keep you posted as to when we will resume our quest for the best bagels on Long Island.

Happy June!

Sunday Bagels With Dad Update

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post sooner--Memorial Day weekend has been extremely busy!

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our weekly bagel shop visit yesterday.  Bryan broke his arm last Sunday night and has no use of his left arm.  It will need to be immobilized for four weeks, so we aren't sure when we're going to be able to resume our quest for the best bagels on Long Island.  But I will definitely keep you updated as to how his arm is and will let you know for sure when we'll feature a new bagel shop.

For now, though, we'd love to see suggestions for places to visit when Bryan's arm does heal.  We'd like to know where your favorite bagel places are so we can enjoy them too!

Please keep a speedy recovery for Bryan in your thoughts.  I'll let you know next Sunday what our next steps will be.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and that your summer is getting off to an incredible start!

Our bagels were good, but not great.  Rebecca also didn't feel that the cream cheese tasted the greatest, either.  We were extremely impressed with the store, however.  This store was one of our all-time favorites.  The store was very spacious, with the seating area separate from the ordering area.  It was also decorated very nicely and had a homelike feel to it.  It also featured an amazing selection of not just breakfast items, but also bakery and deli items.  We were somewhat dissatisfied with the service.  After a miscommunication between our server and Bryan, he wound up getting a buttered bagel instead of a bagel with cream cheese.  He also didn't feel like there was much butter on his bagel at all (although Rebecca disagrees, since everything in the bag got very greasy very quickly).  Also, she gave Rebecca a lot of cream cheese, which she likes, but it was too much in this instance, because the bagel was also warm, and whenever she took a bite, a whole bunch would come off the bagel in a big glop.  Finally, we did not receive napkins in our bag, so the whole thing made for a pretty messy experience.

Overall, we were very impressed with this bagel store's atmosphere.  We do, however, feel that there was room for improvement in the other categories.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we go somewhere new!  Also remember you can find us on Facebook and Twitter.  Finally, if you've got a suggestion for us, we'd love to hear it! sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com

5/10/15: Strathmore Bagels, East Setauket

Hi Everyone and Happy Mother's Day!

Today we visited Strathmore Bagels in East Setauket!

Strathmore Bagels
Three Village Plaza
1367 Rt. 25A
East Setauket, NY 11733
Phone: 631-675-6943
Fax: 631-675-6942
Facebook: Strathmore Bagels of East Setauket

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan got a well-toasted French toast bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 4 1/2
Service: 3 1/2
Cost: $4.24

We would give our bagels an "average" rating in the taste category.  We liked them, but we were disappointed that they didn't taste a little better.  We felt that the store itself was really nice, though.  It was almost as if the dining area was separate from the ordering area, allowing for a good experience both for ordering and waiting for your bagels and for sitting and eating them.  While our server was nice and she did make sure that Rebecca's bagel was light, Bryan felt that his bagel could've been more darkly toasted and that he got too much cream cheese.  In contrast, Rebecca felt that she didn't get enough cream cheese.

Overall, we liked this bagel store very much, but it could've been even better with an improvement in the taste category.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we go somewhere new!  And remember, we're always taking suggestions for new places to visit in comments or at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  See you next week!

5/3/15: North Fork Bagel Inc.

Hi Everyone!

This Sunday we took a scenic trip to the east end as we checked out North Fork Bagel Inc. in Jamesport!

North Fork Bagel Inc.
Main Rd Ste. 7
Jamesport, NY 11947
Phone: (631) 722-4800

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan got a well-toasted sesame bagel with a little bit of cream cheese. Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 2 1/2
Atmosphere 3 1/2
Service: 3
Cost: $4.00

We didn't particularly enjoy the taste of our bagels this morning.  Rebecca liked the cream cheese much more than the bagel itself, but neither was really great in her mind.  The store was fairly large, with ample room to sit or to wait for your bagels.  It also had a homey feel to it, where everyone was friendly.  However, it could've been better lit or have laid out differently to fit an extra table or two.  Our server was very nice and friendly.  However, she didn't make sure that Bryan's bagel was well toasted and she also gave him more cream cheese than he would've wanted.

Overall, we were not thoroughly impressed with our experience today, and would rate this bagel place to be about "average".

Don't forget to check back next week when we head somewhere new!  And don't forget, if you have a favorite bagel place you'd like us to check out or if you are a LI bagel shop looking for recognition, comment or email us at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  We look forward to hearing from you!

See you next week!

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 3
Service: 3
Cost: $5.00

We thought the taste of our bagels were about average; they were tasty, but not exceptionally impressive.  Also, they were slightly smaller than the bagels we are accustomed to, but not by much.  The store was nice, but felt a little cramped as it was crowded when we were there and those who had to wait for their bagels found themselves near the tables.  There were also very few tables.  Our server was nice, and she did check and make sure that Rebecca's bagel was light and that Bryan's bagel was well-toasted and that it had only a little cream cheese on it.  However, we did wait longer than we usually do for our bagels.

Overall, we felt that this bagel store deserves an "average" rating.  It was not bad, but it wasn't excellent either.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!  And, as always, you can help us pick our next destination by commenting or sending us an email at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  We'd love to hear from you!

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan got a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 5
Cost: $5.00

While we liked the taste of our bagels, we didn't feel that they were outstanding.  Rebecca, however, was definitely more impressed with the taste of her bagel than Bryan was with his.  We were extremely impressed with the cleanliness and good layout of the store, although it was very small with little or no room to wait for your bagels, depending on how busy the store is at a given time.  Also, there were no inside seats.  There were a few tables outside, though.  We were extremely impressed with the service we received.  Our server and one other person in the back appeared to be the only two people working when we were there, and our server handled the busy store very well while still getting the customers exactly what they wanted.  She searched almost the entire sesame bagel bin for a light-colored bagel, which Rebecca really appreciated.  She also took care that Bryan's bagel was the way he wanted it, asking him whether it was well-toasted enough and putting only a little cream cheese on, as he'd asked.

Overall, while we thought the taste of the bagels was about average, we were impressed with the other aspects of the bagel store and would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a nice, small store and a bagel made just the way you ask for it!

Don't forget to check back next week when we head somewhere new!  As always, if you have a suggestion for us, post it here or email sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  Have a great week!

J&J Bagel & Deli
209 Glen Cove Road
Carle Place, NY 11514
Phone: (516) 746-5000

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan got a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 3
Service: 4
Cost: $4.89

We really liked the taste of our bagels, although Rebecca more so than Bryan.  We believe that the bagels were a good size for us.  The store was nice, although there were only a couple of tables and just a bit of room to sit and wait.  Our server was very nice, and she made sure that Rebecca's bagel was light and that Bryan's bagel was well-toasted and had only a little cream cheese, so we were both satisfied with the way our bagels came out.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience here, and would recommend it to those who live nearby as a good place to go for a morning bagel.

Don't forget to keep up with us as we search for LI's best bagels!  If you have an idea of a place we should check out, we'd love to hear from you!  Comment or email us: sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  See you next week!

4/5/15: Barbara's Bagels

Happy Holiday Weekend!

Today we decided to head to Barbara's Bagels in Roslyn Heights!

Barbara's Bagels
113 Mineola Avenue
Roslyn Heights, NY 11577
Phone: 516-484-3245
Facebook: Barbara's Bagels
barbarasbagels@hotmail.com

Rebecca got a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 2 1/2
Service: 3
Cost: $5.50

We enjoyed the taste of our bagels very much!  They were nice and fluffy and airy and just the right size for us (in other words, slightly bigger than your average bagel due to all the fluffiness).  The bagel store itself was very small.  There were only a few places to sit and barely any room at all to stand and wait, so it was good we weren't there at a busy time!  Our server was nice, and he did make sure Bryan's bagel had only a little bit of cream cheese.  However, he gave Rebecca much less cream cheese than she's accustomed to getting it, and she believes she would've liked her already delicious bagel even more with just a little more cream cheese.  He also neglected to put napkins in our bag along with the bagels, so it's a good thing we caught it before we got too far so that we could go back and pick some up for the ride.

Overall, while we thought the bagels were extremely tasty, we found the rest of the aspects of this bagel store to be about average, and wouldn't necessarily list this as one of our top picks.

Got a favorite bagel place?  Are you a bagel store that wants to be recognized on an island-wide blog?  Let us know!  Comment on our posts or email us at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  We'd love to hear from you!

Hoping everyone has a great spring break and see you next week!

3/29/15: Jericho Delicatessen Salad & Yogurt Bar Bagel Bakery

Hi Everyone!

Today Sunday Bagels With Dad decided to pay a visit to Jericho Delicatessen Salad & Yogurt Bar Bagel Bakery in Jericho!

Jericho Delicatessen Salad & Yogurt Bar Bagel Bakery
523 N. Broadway
Jericho, NY 11753
Phone: (516) 822-4477
Fax: (516) 822-2121
Facebook: Jericho Deli

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it:

Taste: 2
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 3
Cost: $5.00

We were somewhat disappointed with the taste of the bagels from this bagel shop.  Rebecca thought her bagel could've been slightly better with a little more cream cheese on it, but wasn't exactly sure because the taste of the cream cheese didn't entirely appeal to her either.  The bagel shop itself was very nice.  There was ample seating room and lots of space to wait for your bagels to be ready for you.  It was big and spacious.  Our server was nice, and he did check to make sure Rebecca's bagel was light-colored and that Bryan's bagel was well-toasted.

Overall, we definitely wouldn't rank this as one of our top picks.  Although we did have a good experience in the store, the taste of the bagels left something to be desired...

We look forward to continuing our quest for LI's best bagels!  Where should we head next?  Tell us in a comment or email us at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  See you next week!

3/22/15: Bagel Patch

Hi Everyone!

This week we stopped by Bagel Patch in Holbrook!

Bagel Patch
5721 Sunrise Highway
Holbrook, NY 11741
Phone: 631-567-4786
Fax: 631-319-1662
Facebook: Bagel Patch

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan got a toasted sesame bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we ranked it:

Taste: 2 1/2
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 3
Price: $6.25

The bagels were of a good size.  However, we were disappointed with the taste of both the bagel and the cream cheese.  Rebecca felt the cream cheese tasted a little too buttery.  The store itself was nice with ample seating and ample room to wait both to order and as your order was processed.  Our server was nice and she checked to make sure Rebecca's bagel was as light as she wanted it.

Overall, we liked the atmosphere and service of this bagel shop, but we wouldn't necessarily recommend it highly because we weren't very fond of the taste.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!  Where should we go next?  We're always open to comments or suggestions through post comments or by e-mail: sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com  We look forward to hearing from you!

3/15/15: Bagel Brothers Gourmet Bagels & Deli

Hi Everyone!

This week, we took a trip back to Holbrook and visited Bagel Brothers Gourmet Bagels & Deli!

Bagel Brothers
Gourmet Bagels & Deli
315G Main St.
Holbrook, NY 17741
Phone: (631) 285-7262
Fax: (631) 285-7263
Facebook: Bagel Brothers of Holbrook

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan got a well-toasted everything bagel with a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we ranked it:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 4
Cost: $5.50

The bagels were an average size, not too big or too small.  Rebecca's bagel was very light, just the way she likes it.  We found the bagels to be very good in terms of taste.  The bagel store itself was nice, although a little cramped as it was very busy at the time we went.  Our server was very nice, and he made sure that Bryan's bagel was well toasted and had only a little bit of cream cheese.  Rebecca's criticism was that her bagel didn't have much cream cheese, either, and she enjoys having a substantial amount of cream cheese on her bagel.  She believes that she would've enjoyed the taste of her already tasty bagel even more if she'd been given more cream cheese.

All in all, we had a very good experience today and would place this bagel store fairly high on our list of favorites so far.

We're looking forward to bringing you new bagel places each and every week.  If you have a favorite bagel place that we haven't reviewed yet, let us know!  We'd love to hear from you!  We're also open to any comments or suggestions you may have about our blog.  Comment or e-mail us at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  See everyone next week!

3/8/15: Bagel Doctor

Happy Daylight Saving Time Sunday Everyone!

This week we paid a visit to Bagel Doctor in Oakdale.

1380 Montauk Hwy
Oakdale, NY 11769
Phone: (631) 218-3535
Fax: (631) 218-0206
Facebook: Bagel Doctor

Rebecca ordered a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how Bagel Doctor stacked up:

Taste: 3
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 3
Cost: $4.80

The bagels were an average size and tasted a bit too doughy.  Also, the cream cheese we tasted today was not our favorite, either.  However, the bagels store itself was nice.  It was roomy with ample seating and ample waiting room, providing a non-cramped experience even on a busy day.  Our server was very nice and made sure Bryan's bagel was well-toasted, as he'd asked.  However, she neglected to put napkins in the bag, and, as we often eat in the car, this could've posed some problems for us had we not thought to check in the bag.

Overall, we wouldn't rank this as one of our top picks since the taste of the bagels wasn't as good as we would've wanted.

Got a favorite bagel place you think we should visit?  Are you the owner of a bagel place that wants to get noticed?  Comment or email us at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  We'd love to hear from you!  See you next week when we head somewhere new!

3/1/15: Bagel Biz & Sweet Hollow Bakery

Happy March Everyone!

This week we went to Bagel Biz & Sweet Hollow Bakery in Melville!

Bagel Biz & Sweet Hollow Bakery

Fax: (631) 385-2131

Facebook: Bagel Biz & Sweet Hollow Bakery

Rebecca got her usual, a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted everything bagel with just a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how Bagel Biz stacked up:

Taste: 4
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 5
Cost: $6.08

The bagels were very big.  The bagel store itself was also very big, and is nice for people who like a place where there's always something going on since it was very crowded.  Ample seating. There are also lots of baked goods prominently displayed (which were very delicious looking).  Our server was very nice, and she listened to our directions very well--Bryan's bagel came out just the way he ordered it!  The cost definitely surprised us, though--it is definitely one of the largest prices we've ever paid for bagels!

All in all, we're not sure we would consider this one of our top picks, but we would say that we enjoyed our experience there today.

Where should we go next?  E-mail us: sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  We'd love to hear from you!  Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!

2/22/15: Holbrook Bagel Bakery

Hi Everyone,

Only just now getting to post this after a busy Sunday! Yesterday (February 22) we visited Holbrook Bagel Bakery in Holbrook!

Holbrook Bagel Bakery
1073 Main Street
Holbrook, NY 11741
Phone: (631) 981-0848
Facebook: Holbrook Bagel Bakery

Rebecca ordered her "usual", a light colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a toasted everything bagel with a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's how we rated it.

Taste: 5
Atmosphere: 5
Service: 5
Cost: $5.38

The bagels were a good size and were airy.  We both agreed that the cream cheese was very good. The store itself was nice but was small and not much room to wait before and after ordering.  There were also no seats, so this may not be the greatest option if you like to sit and eat your bagel right in the bagel shop.  The server who waited on us was very nice and our bagels came out just the way we like them.  In addition, we got an opportunity to speak to the owner, a very nice man named Chris.  He explained that all of the bagels, cream cheese, and cookies that we saw were made right there on the premises.  He also explained to us the process he uses to make his cream cheese to get it to just the right consistency.

All in all, we really loved our experience here. and would label this place among our top picks! Highly recommended if you live in or near Holbrook and are looking for a good bagel!

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!  If you have a suggestion, we'd love to hear it!  Email us at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com or comment on our post.  We'd love to hear from you!  Talk to you next week!

2/8/15: The Everything Bagel of Commack

This Sunday, we visited The Everything Bagel of Commack in Commack, NY!

The Everything Bagel of Commack
217 Commack Road
Commack, NY 11725
Phone: (631) 462-6433
Fax: (631) 462-6433
www.commackbagels.com

Rebecca ordered her "usual", a light-colored sesame bagel with cream cheese.  Bryan ordered a well-toasted blueberry bagel with a little bit of cream cheese.  Here's our ranking:

Taste: 3 out of 5 stars

Atmosphere: 4 out of 5 stars

Service: 3 out of 5 stars

Cost: $4.50

Overall summary:  The bagels were very large and very prominently displayed in the case.  The shop had a nice atmosphere, and Rebecca especially enjoyed the bagel mural on the wall (see photo above).  The ample table space and ample parking provide for a good experience even on a busy day.  Our server was polite, but Rebecca's bagel could've been lighter and Bryan's bagel wasn't quite as well-toasted as he might've liked.  (Also, she gave more cream cheese than he would've liked.)  All in all, we would give this bagel shop an "average" rating, and wouldn't necessarily consider it as one of our favorite bagel shops of all time.

Don't forget to check us out next week when we head somewhere new!

Bryan and Rebecca

Welcome to Sunday Bagels With Dad!

Hello and welcome to the Sunday Bagels With Dad blog!

We are a father-daughter team who travels all over Long Island looking to see who sells the best bagels.  We've been doing this for a couple of years, and have been to at least 60 bagel shops all over Nassau and Suffolk counties.  Recently we decided to start this blog to share what we think about the bagel shops we visit.

Every week, we'll feature a new bagel shop.  We'll provide all of the shop's information, as well as what we thought of the bagels, the shop itself, and the service.  If you've visited too and have more to say than what we've mentioned, comments are always welcome!

In ranking the bagel shops, we base our judgement on four categories: Taste, Atmosphere, Service, and Cost.  In each area except for cost, we can give the bagel shop up to five stars.  One star means we were very dissatisfied with our experience, while five stars mean that this bagel shop is a "must-eat".  In the Cost category, we provide the total price of our bagel order.  Comparing prices in the Cost category can help determine the best bagel shop for you if price matters.

We'll also provide an overall summary of each bagel shop in which we provide more information than just how we'd rank it on a scale of 1-5.  For example, we'll mention bagel size and more on the atmosphere of the shop.

We pick the towns and bagels shops that we visit at random.  If you've got a bagel shop that you love and want us to try, either leave us a comment or e-mail us at sundaybagelswithdad@gmail.com.  We'd love to hear from you!

We're also on Facebook and Twitter if you'd prefer to connect that way:

Facebook: Sunday Bagels With Dad
Twitter: @sundaybagelwdad

We're looking forward to keeping you posted on Long Island's bagel shops!
